Dry Ice Safety Warning

Your order is shipped with dry ice (solid carbon dioxide), classified as a DOT Class 9 hazardous material. Please observe the following safety precautions:

  • Do not touch dry ice with bare skin. Dry ice is extremely cold (-109F/-78C) and can cause severe frostbite and burns on contact. Always use thick gloves, tongs, or towels when handling.
  • Use in well-ventilated areas only. As dry ice sublimates (turns to gas), it releases carbon dioxide, which can displace oxygen in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces. This can cause difficulty breathing, dizziness, or suffocation. Never use dry ice in a sealed room, car with windows closed, or walk-in freezer.
  • Do not store in airtight containers. Gas buildup from sublimating dry ice can cause sealed containers, coolers, or bottles to expand and potentially rupture or explode. Always leave containers vented.
  • Do not ingest dry ice. Swallowing dry ice can cause severe internal burns and injury.
  • Keep away from children and pets. Store the shipping container out of reach until dry ice has fully dissipated.
  • Do not dispose of dry ice in sinks, toilets, or garbage disposals. The extreme cold can damage plumbing. Instead, leave remaining dry ice in a well-ventilated area (such as an open garage or porch) and allow it to sublimate naturally.

First aid for dry ice burns: If dry ice contacts skin, rinse the area gently with lukewarm water (not hot). Do not rub. If blistering occurs, seek medical attention.

Note: It is normal for some or all dry ice to have sublimated during transit. This does not necessarily mean your products have been compromised - check product condition and temperature on arrival.

When Your Order Arrives

  1. Open immediately upon delivery. Do not leave the package outside for extended periods, especially in warm weather.
  2. Handle dry ice safely. Wear gloves or use towels - do not touch dry ice with bare hands. See dry ice safety warnings above.
  3. Check product condition. Steaks should be frozen, partially frozen with ice crystals, or cold to the touch. If you use a food thermometer, products should be 40F/4C or below.
  4. Contact us if anything feels unsafe. If products are warm, room temperature, or above 40F, do not eat them. Take photos of the box, label, and product condition, then contact us the same day.
  5. Transfer to freezer immediately. Store at 0F (-18C) or below. Vacuum-sealed frozen steaks maintain best quality for 4-12 months.
  6. Thaw safely when ready to cook. Thaw in refrigerator (24 hours per 1-2 lbs), in cold water (change water every 30 minutes), or in the microwave (cook immediately after). Never thaw at room temperature.
  7. Cook to safe temperatures. Use a food thermometer - 145F for steaks/roasts (with 3-minute rest), 160F for ground beef.

Important: Never leave raw or cooked meat at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if above 90F). See our full food safety guidelines in our Terms of Service.

How to Report a Problem

  1. Contact us within 24 hours of delivery at customerservice@bigtexan.com.
  2. Include your order number, delivery ZIP code, and a short description of what happened.
  3. Attach photos of the shipping box, shipping label, packing materials, and affected products.
  4. If you checked temperature, include the thermometer reading.

Depending on the issue, we may replace affected items, issue store credit, or refund affected items. If food arrives warm or unsafe, document the condition first and wait for our team's instructions before disposing of affected product.

Frozen steak orders are packed for approved 1-2 day cold-chain transit. Dry ice may be gone by the time the box arrives, which is normal. Your steaks are acceptable if they are frozen, partially frozen with ice crystals, or cold to the touch at 40F/4C or below.

If your steaks arrive warm, room temperature, or above 40F/4C, do not eat them. Photograph the box, label, packing materials, and product condition, then contact us within 24 hours at customerservice@bigtexan.com. We will review the issue and confirm the available remedy for affected items.

Not yet. Orders ship based on placement date, destination ZIP code, and the cutoff schedule above. For gifts or special occasions, choose air shipping when available and order early enough to avoid weekends, holidays, and weather delays.

Yes, but the location must be open and able to receive the box on the delivery day. We cannot cover frozen-food issues caused by a closed business, delayed pickup from a mailroom, or a recipient who is unavailable after delivery. For larger orders, contact customerservice@bigtexan.com so the team can confirm launch options.

We recommend being present or sending to an address where someone can move the box to a freezer the same day. Signature may be required for higher-value orders. Delivery instructions can help, but customer-requested carrier holds, redirects, or reschedules may affect guarantee coverage.
